The most important thing in any piece of writing is the body. It is for sure that the introduction should be a type of hook that would grab the reader’s attention and would interest him to go on. Knowing that, write an introduction that hooks the reader, but focus greatly on the body of the writing. This is exactly what you should be thinking about when writing your cover letter, the body of that letter is the most important. Keep in mind that some employers tend to skip the introduction and look directly at the body. Here is an outline for you that would guide your way!

Paragraph One:

State why you are writing this cover letter. Tell how you learned about this position – if there is no specific job vacancy, tell why you are interested in joining the team. If you have any persons as references include it also.

 

Paragraph Two:

In this paragraph focus on what you have to offer the employer. If you have related experience or specialized training, elaborate on the details that would be of special interest to the employer. Make strong connections between your qualifications and the position requirements. Provide examples on how you obtained/honed these skills. Mention specifically how your skills and experience match the job you are applying for. Use several shorter paragraphs or a bulleted list of your qualifications rather than one large block of text. Your goal here is to match your skills to the employer's needs. Explain how you would fit into the position and the organization.

 

Paragraph Three:

Conclude your cover letter by thanking the employer for considering you for the position. Restate how your qualifications match the position. Express your interest in further discussing your background and the position with the employer. Include information on how you will follow-up, if you have the contact information for the hiring manager to do so.
